Review:
Not a German rip-off of the trendy horror franchise, but instead a musical exploration into the scientific study of psychic ability. Err right ok then. The latest project from man of many aliases, Gerald Donald, is, as you might expect, a voyage through an obtuse and glitch-filled electronic landscape. Hissing drums, sharp stabbing synths and slow pulsating baselines make for an album that sounds like what you might get had the original members of Kraftwerk recorded an album in deepest, darkest Detroit. The over-all package is completed by Beta Evers whose vocals, sounding like Fever Ray at her coldest, float gently and hauntingly over the beats. Unsettling, uneasy yet strangely satisfying, this album feels very much at home on Rephlex.
