Review:
A celebration of all things chillwave pop and electronica, F*>k Dance… aims to be a musical encyclopaedia of all the trendy styles that are currently flooding in from the US east coast. Flipping between the glitchy pop of Toyo Y Moi, Washed Out’s meandering low-fi, the jacked 8-bit electro of Crystal Castles and Animal Collective’s leftfield indie, amongst other countless sub-genres, the compilation feels at times disjointed. The release’s intention to provide a definitive collection of musical outings within the diverse scene is realised, but with so many stylistic clashes between tracks, the cohesive album listening experience is understated and at times flat.
