Review:
Abandoning Berlin for a backwater pacific isle, album number three from Frivolous (aka Daniel Gardner) is a collage of influences he’s discovered upon the warm, soapy shores far away from the cold German capital. It’s unsurprising then that the collection emits a sense of warmth, both in the slabs of deep and instrumental house, and the glitchy, ambient interludes that punctuate and air the album. Tracks like Back Into The Deep and Ostalgia show Gardner still has a strong grasp of where house music is in 2011, and whilst some house-heads might find proceedings a bit too po-faced and at times even drippy, the album’s success lies in its abstract layers and warped emotional complexity.
