Review:

Recorded with Carl Craig at his studios in Detroit, Tristano’s third album on the French imprint is an interesting experiment in piano and abstract electronica. The ivory keys offer the one constant through a musical landscape of 4/4 beats, drum machines and synths, establishing Tristano a signature sound against a backdrop of influences. Side-stepping any potentially pretentious aspirations, the record feels refreshingly playful – dabbling in jazz on tracks such as Wilson, ambience on Last Days and techno in equal measure on Fragrance de Fraga. A flowery expression we know, but the sheer beauty of this record can’t be understated as Tristano demonstrates an Eno-like command in the marriage of electronics and the piano. A future late-night classic.
