Not actually offering anything resembling techno, Ed Banger’s latest compilation instead offers swathes of the bass-ridden electro and disco that has become synonymous with the imprint. The first half, collapsing under the weight of its talent (think every big French producer), is a rather predictable, stifling affair and it’s not until an injection of new talent that things really start cooking: Discodeine and Djedjotronic both offer big juicy basslines and beats, whilst the riffs of Brodinski & Senghore’s Anagogue [sic] explode with colour, whilst veteran Zombie Nation claims the album’s money-shot with gurgling acid track Relax. Skip the slow beginning, and there’s something here for even the most jaded of French-electro aficionados.
